The acquisition of National City by PNC represents a combination of two regional banks with contiguous market concentrations that together will be a major force in the industrial belt of the eastern part of the United States.
On October 24th, PNC announced their plan to acquire National City. The merger will result in an expanded regional presence. By acquiring National City, PNC doubled its primary market share nationwide to 4%, placing the bank in the fourth place position. They now rank number three in the Midwest.
